I am 65 years old. I have spent 40+ years in the trenches of software engineering and IT management. I should be looking forward to a quiet retirement.
Instead, I am building MindTheStore.ai.
Why? Because I see a looming crisis that the tech industry is largely ignoring. The unskilled labor crisis and the cannibalization of e-commerce supply chains aren't just market trends; they are human tragedies in the making.
The Mission: Beyond Subsistence
For years, "side hustles" have been synonymous with cloned content or low-value fads. That model is failing in 2026.
MindTheStore's mission is to provide a platform where seniors, students, and at-risk people can set up dignified income streams based on providing real value, empowered by autonomous AI agents.
1. Empowerment, Not Replacement
We don't use AI to replace the worker. We use Kaigents to handle the parts of the business that are traditionally "too hard" for a non-technical person: SecOps, HTAP analytics, and Kubernetes management.
2. Real Value, Real Products
Whether it's a managed fractional CTO service for a startup or a niche e-commerce business, the goal is to build something that lasts. We leverage Silicon Sovereignty to keep costs low and data private.
3. A Path to Retirement
For me, MindTheStore is the ultimate test case. I am building my own retirement side-hustle as a proof of concept. If I can build a $1,000/week profit stream using the tools we've developed, I can show others how to do it too.
The Future of Work
The spasm of the global economy requires a new model of labor. We can't rely on 40-year careers at one company anymore.
We need to become Venture Architects of our own lives.
MindTheStore is more than a domain name; it's a commitment to using AI for social good. It's about ensuring that as the world automates, we don't leave the most vulnerable behind.
Join the Mission
We are just getting started. As we move through May 2026, we'll be sharing the PRDs and tech designs for the MindTheStore platform.
Let's build a future where AI doesn't just "mind the store"—it empowers the human to own it.
John K. Johansen is the founder of MindTheStore.ai and a champion for dignified work in the AI era.
